Sunday At The Ballpark

Nelson Cruz comes up to bat, Sunday as we watched the Mariners play Texas at Safeco.  Cruz would later hit a home run,  as the M's would win 4-2  Felix Hernandez, although not as his sharpest was  able to get his 14th win.  Seattle's Jesus Montero also had a 2 run blast.

We took my Dad to Safeco Field on Father's Day to watch the Mariners play the Texas Rangers.  Here I am at the statue honoring the great Mariner announcer Dave Niehaus.  Perhaps, rubbing the stature's shoulder gave the team good luck.  The Mariners broke a 5 game losing streak, beating the Rangers 5-1.

Cardinals Force A Game 7 In Fall Classic

The Texas Rangers learned a valuable lesson about letting the other team hang around as the St Louis Cardinals staged an improbable comeback to win game 6.  David Freese  hit a lead off homer in the 11th to reverse a two game losing streak.  In both the 9th and 10 innings, the Cardinals were behind and had two outs and two strikes, but they continued to deliver in the clutch.  When people think about tradition in baseball, the Yankees and Dodgers come to mind, but the Cardinals have won 10 titles, second only to the Yankees.

Lee Vs Lincecum In World Series Opener

The two outstanding pitcher's who oppose each other in Game 1 of this year's World Series have Northwest ties. Tim Lincecum grew up in the area and attended Liberty High School in Renton and the University Of Washington. Cliff Lee, is kind of a stretch, he spent the first three months of this season as a Seattle Mariner. The two pitchers are a contrast in styles, Lincecum is long hair and has an unorthodox style, Cliff Lee is button-down and business. Amazingly though, Lee is the journeyman playing for his fourth team in four seasons. Lincecum has been a Giant his entire career. Both men have won the Cy Young, Lincecum won his second last year. The Rangers are seeking their first World Series championship, the Giants have not won a title since 1954 when they were the New York Giants.

Seattle Mariners Kick Baseball Season Off With Win

I guess "kick off" would be the wrong word but the Seattle Mariners started the 2008 campaign off with a 5-2 win over the Texas Rangers. Pictured here are two Mariners who need no introduction. Top is Hall Of Famer Dave Niehaus, the voice of the Mariners and below of course Ichiro who came up with a couple of key hits.
