I think it would be a big positive for the Mariners, as far as maybe one shorter road trip and a little more competition.

Bringing a Major League Baseball team to Portland, Oregon is an incredibly exciting vision that taps into the city's rich sports culture, passionate fanbase, and unique civic pride. Portland is a booming sports town that has already proven its deep loyalty to the Portland Trail Blazers and Portland Timbers. Introducing an MLB team would beautifully bridge the gap between spring and fall, giving locals a summer-long rallying cry. Portland isn't new to the game; it has a vibrant history with the beloved minor-league Portland Beavers, which dates back to the early 1900s. The Timbers play at Providence Park in downtown Portland, which is famous for having one of the most passionate and vibrant atmospheres in North American soccer. Their colors are ponderosa green and moss green, celebrating Oregon's forests. The crest features a prominent axe, paying homage to the Pacific Northwest's logging industry. Their mascot, Timber Joey, uses a live chainsaw to slice a round "log slab" off a massive victory log behind the north goal every time the team scores a home goal. Building a state-of-the-art ballpark—especially if aligned with waterfront concepts like the ones championed by the Portland Diamond Project—could revitalize industrial or underutilized areas into bustling, community-centric districts.
