Attack On Bothell High School Teacher Was Faked

An attack on a High Shool Shop teacher that saddened and outraged the region and beyond, took a strange turn when it was discovered that there was no attack.  Media sources revealed that Cal Pygott of Bothell High School staged the incident where a fellow teacher found him on the ground in his classroom, apparently struck by a blunt object and with a zip tie around his neck.  There was no reason given for this to happen.  Pygott has been placed on paid administrative leave.

Hope Solo Goes So Low

Washington State native Hope Solo has received a 6 month suspension from the US National Soccer team for calling the Swedish Olympic team "cowards" after it ended the US team's chance to get a gold medal in the quarter finals.  It is Solo's second suspension from the team. Last year, she was suspended for 30 days after an incident at training camp.  She has also dealt with charges of domestic violence after a 2014 incident in Kirkland.

Nightmare On Maple Valley Street

It's what every homeowner dreads, I was returning home after work and a visit to the gym last Thursday evening.  I opened the door from the garage and was shocked to see water on the floor, like the dishwasher or clothes washer was leaking
When I stepped into the family room I thought I was in the middle of a nightmare!  Part of the ceiling had collapsed.  Without thinking of the risk involved, I ran upstairs,  the floor was soaken wet.  I traced the water to the guest bathroom where water was leaking out of the hose like a garden hose that was not connected to a faucet tightly.  I turned off the water under the toilet.  Then assessed the damage. I called Debra at work and told her to come home immediately.  She called our homeowner insurance agency Farmers.  They told her not to panic, that they can send a water restoration crew in that night to which they did.  After a late night night we began to start work toward getting our house back to normal.
We were very lucky that many of our possessions were not damaged.  We will need to replace flooring and walls, along with pipes, but we are in it for the long haul.

News Anchor Isn’t Taking Radio Host's Crap

The folks at Puget Sound Media, gave me the heads up on this story.  Former Seattle area radio personality, Magic Matt Alan has gotten into a social media war with KTLA reporter Kacey Montoya.  LA based Alan, who can be heard on Sirius/XM Satellite 70s on 7 and Outlaw Radio on the internet, sometimes at the same time, promoted his Outlaw Radio by claiming on his Facebook page to have seen Montoya's black thong through her white dress on the air.  Montoya took Alan's bate with a terse reply, calling Alan a "pig" and saying Alan must do podcasts from his mom's basement.  She also claimed she was not wearing such clothing.
Alan is known for his contempt for Political Correctness. Burl Barer, another former Seattle DJ living in the LA area is also on the Outlaw Radio Program.

Seaside Beach Volleyball Tournament

It's billed as the largest Beach Volleyball Tournament in the world.  We arrived in Seaside, during it's annual event.  Over 150 nets were spread out from North and South of the landmark turnaround. Men and woman of all ages were participating.  Beach Volleyball is now a very popular Olympic sport.  The viewing was free and fun, since we were staying at the Resort At Seaside, we were able to watch from our condo (bottom picture).  We also had lunch on the beach and watched the volleyball players Saturday.

Seahawks Start Preseason With Bang

The Seattle Seahawks began their preseason with a dramatic come from behind victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.  With no time on the clock, Trevone Boykin, a back up quarterback threw a 37 yard hail mary pass to Tanner McEvoy, making the score 16-15.  The Hawks then elected to go for a 2 point conversion, giving the ball to recently signed Tremaine Pope, who busted into the endzone with no time on the clock.Although the game did not count in the standings, it showed that Pete Carroll teams will always compete on every play and every game.

More pictures from Seahawk Training Camp.

Seahawk Training Camp

Seahawk training camp is a lot of fun.  In the above picture, you can see Russell Wilson (#3 in red jersey).  One of our customers who was a season ticket holder got tickets.  Deb and I, along with my sister-in-law Donna and our friend attended.
It was crowded. Training camp is fun because you get your first look at the team.  There is also loud  music and a party atmosphere.
Fans attending camp, catch a bus at nearby Renton shopping center, The Landing.  When we arrived there was a mile long line.
The practice started out with various drills and concluded with two squads playing a game.   The practices are held at Seahawk Headquarters, known as the Virginia Mason Athletic Center (VMAC).

Griffey's Number 24 Retired In Safeco Ceremony

Ken Griffey Jr's became the first Seattle Mariner to have his number retired as of last night.  Griffey, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame a few weeks ago was in Seattle this weekend for the ceremony.   Not only were Griffey's former teammates on hand, but baseball legend Hank Aaron spoke on the big screen. Aaron's appearance  built the anticipation that another baseball great the wore the number 24,  would appear.  MC Rick Rizzs  introduced various number 24s until Willie Mays, appeared on the big screen with his taped greetings. Then the above plaque was unveiled.  It is next to Jackie Robinson, whose number is retired throughout baseball. I found it ironic that Griffey's number is the reverse of Robinson's.
Thank you to Root Sports, who carried the ceremony on TV before the Mariner's game with the Angels.  The M's wound up sweeping the Halo's in the weekend series.

Maple Valley Native Brandi Carlile Honored at Pocket Park

The pocket park at Wilderness Village is complete and it has a distinct honor for Grammy nominated singer Brandi Carlile.  Carlile's foundation contributed $5 thousand dollars to the completion of the park and the small stage bears her name.
The tiny park, is located between the QFC and Starbucks in Wilderness Village, in an area that recently had been littered with dumpsters and shopping carts.  Part of the park was financed by a "kickstarter" campaign.

Maple Valley Music In The Park

This is picture is very grainy, but I snapped it of the group Free Rain.  The band was playing for this week's "Music In The Park" series at Lake Wilderness Park in Maple Valley.  I had been walking with Dasher on the trail and had let him swim a few hundred feet from where the band played.

Full Kareem Abdul-Jabaar speech - Democratic National Convention

This address started with a rather awkward joke, well, it was kind of funny, but had an awkward delivery.  Not much attention was really paid to it, but it began what would turn out to be a huge firestorm.
