Seahawks Will Travel Far In 2018

 

 

 

 

It has been announced that the Seattle Seahawks will play the Oakland Raiders in London in the 2018 season.  The game will be played on October 14th.

Raiders Going To Las Vegas

After becoming the first team in major professional sports to return to it's original city.  San Diego returned to Los Angeles where it's origins lie.  The St Louis Rams, last year, returned to Los Angeles. Now the Raiders are moving for the third time.  The team will head for Las Vegas becoming the first major sports team to leave the same city twice.
For me it looks like teams in the 1990s moved to cities where they could connect with blue collar fans.  After about 20 years of no NFL moves, it seems now that teams are following the money. 

NFL Approve Rams Move To Los Angeles

 

For the second time in the history of the NFL, a team is returning to the city which it once played.  While the Raiders move to back Oakland, it's birthplace, seems less than successful, the Rams are hoping they can call Los Angeles "home" for a long time.   In 1994, both the Raiders and the Rams left Los Angeles.  Now NFL leaders have approved a move for the Rams to return to Los Angeles, a town they played in from 1945-1994.
I'm happy to see the Rams return to LA.  Since Seattle did not have a football team when I was a boy, I became an LA Ram fan.  They were on TV every week and I grew up a fan of Roman Gabriel and the "Fearsome Foursome".   I lived and died with the Rams and rooted hard for them when they played the Baltimore Colts and the Green Bay Packers. 
One thing that will help the Rams return is that a new stadium is in the works.  That is the one difference between that and the return of the Raiders.  The NFL also gave an option for the Chargers to join the Rams in LA if no deal can be made in San Diego.  Of the three teams seeking to relocate, the Chargers were the only team that was formed in LA, in the old AFL.

Matt Flynn Traded To Raiders

It was an April Fool's deal, but it will be next season before we see if either team winds up looking like a fool.  The Seattle Seahawks have traded Quarterback Matt Flynn, once seen as their probable started in 2012 to the Oakland Raiders for some draft picks in the next couple years.  Flynn was acquired by the 'Hawks in 2012 from the Green Bay Packers as the team was looking to find a better signal caller than Tavares Jackson.  Coach Pete Carroll, however, turned to rookie Russell Wilson and never looked back. In making the deal, the Raiders released Carson Palmer.

Oakland Raider Owner Al Davis Dies

Al Davis, renegade owner of the Oakland Raiders, has died at 82.  Davis seemed to spend as much time in the courtroom as on the football field as he battled the league to relocate his team to Los Angeles, he was successful, but would eventually move them back to Oakland.   Many will compare him to George Steinbrenner in his raw thirst to win, but unlike Steinbrenner, Davis had been a scout, coach, and a general manager. He also was commissioner of the AFL at one time. The Raiders are one of two NFL teams to play in a Super Bowl in 4 different decades. The Raiders, with Davis as owner, have won 3 Super Bowl titles and have more players in the Hall Of Fame than any other team.
