No Opponent For Sutton--She Will Be On Issaquah Council

Jennifer Sutton, my follow state committeeperson, did not draw an opponent in her race to serve on the Issaquah City Council.  Considered a moderate in many of  her positions, it would seem that she has an appeal that can cross ideological lines. 
Sutton has said that she will continue to doorbell and introduce herself to Issaquah voters.

Blues Superstar BB King Dies

B.B. King, who took the Blues into mainstream music after decades of playing, has died at 89.  I first heard of King while visiting my cousin Burl, who at that time (1970) was a DJ at KOL. Burl was visiting family and was talking about seeing King in concert.  He spoke about how great King was. 
Years later, King would release the hit "The Thrill Is Gone".  I got to see King in concert  at Bumbershoot in Seattle, 20  some years ago. King had been suffering from type II diabetes.

BOMV Writer Mentioned In Ken Levine

TV comedy writer Ken Levine has an incredible blog. He somehow posts at least once everyday.  His writing is very pointed and funny, probable because he has written for some of the best comedies television has shown.  Shows like Mash, Cheers, and Frasier.
I was happy to see that Levine mentioned me in a a post from 2007.  You can find that by clicking here.  I have often commented on his blog, simply because the posts often trigger my imagination.  I'm glad to see this one still pumping out great material.
Levine is also a former play by play announcer for the Seattle Mariners.

Courtney Harvey, who works for the E! network, does this report on a stars gala.  Courtney's dad Geoff worked in Walla Walla for K-Hit/XT 97 radio and gave me great encouragement when I sought to enter the broadcast industry.,

He may be the most popular Mariner of all time, Felix Hernandez became the 4th youngest pitcher to  get 2000 strikeouts. It's been a great start for Felix, who has yet to lose a game this season.

Hero Teacher To Throw First Pitch

Brady Olson, the North Thurston High teacher that tackled a student with a gun, will throw out the first pitch at tonight's (May 8th, 2015) Mariner game. The teachers quick actions may have averted another school tragedy. 

Brady Inplicated In Deflategate

An investigation by the NFL has concluded that the NFL's premier quarterback, Tom Brady most likely was aware of under inflated balls  used during last season's AFC Championship game. The Patriots soundly defeated the Indianapolis Colt last January, winning the right to face our Seahawks in the Super Bowl, days later, word got out that balls provided by Patriots employee may have been inflated below NFL rules.
Even Seahawks fans are not blaming doctored balls for the heartbreaking defeat in last February's Super Bowl, but this seriously tarnishes Brady's potential legacy, and as we've seen with baseball players implicated in various scandals, could come to roost when it's time to vote him into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.

Ex President Clinton Sends Tod Letter

My cousin Tod Goldberg, received a thank you letter from ex president Bill Clinton.  Tod had sent Mr. Clinton an inscribed copy of his latest book.  Tod's book Gangsterland is available on Amazon.

Sportsradio KJR Stops The Dance

In the late 90's, Seattle radio listeners could hear Howard Stern, Tom Leykus, and it's own answer to R rated radio Mitch Levy.  Levy and his side kick Jeff "The Fish" Aaron would spend more time "rating girls" and making ribald comments about women in pop culture. As time went on, the show  would grow up, Levy began doing what he did the best, giving valuable sport incite. 
One thing would remain through the years from that crazy time, "The Dance".  The Dance was originally known as "The Bigger Dance" until the NCAA called in a copyright violation.  It would consist of a field of 64 females that were bracketed (names not the actual girls).  It would start the after the last game of the actual Final Four..  The reason I participated was the prize.  The winner would receive a trip to any sporting event in the world.  My choice. would have been the Le Mans Grand Prix.  The contest would get bigger, growing with internet coverage.  In each contest, caller would say their choice. More and more, women were participating.  Their would always be a meet and greet at some bar, where the fans could go into a booth and vote for one of the "final four".  The winner would be know as the "the queen of the hardwood".
Last few years, the excitement wore down and I predicted to demise would be near and sure enough, there was no "The Dance" in 2015.  The contest, after more than maybe a decade and a half, had run it's course.

Saturday Night In Issaquah

We met our friends Marjie and Rick last night at Pogacha in Issaquah.  The brass band @5 played in the lounge.  They covered everything from modern jazz to 70s rock.  Pogacha is located at 120 NW Gilman Blvd.   @5 is a Seattle band that got it's name from the members assembling at 5:00 to jam.  They have 8 members of all ages and instruments.

Well Known Area Sports Figures Look To Build Suburban Arena

Area news sources are reporting on efforts to build a multi purpose sports arena in Tukwila, a South King County suburb not far from Maple Valley.  Among the investors are well known former Seattle Super Sonic Fred Brown, former Sonic coach and NBA legend Bill Russell, and Ray Bartoszek, who has been trying to land an NHL hockey franchise to move to Seattle. 
The involvement of Brown and Russell suggest that although an NHL franchise would be the most likely first tenant, the building of the arena could lure an eventually NBA team.  The NBA has said that team relocation and/or expansion are not in it's immediate future.  The NHL has not been as clear. 
At this time, there is also an MOU, or memorandum of understanding for Chris Hansen to build an arena in Seattle in his attempt to lure an NBA team to Seattle.  The NBA left Seattle for Oklahoma City in 2008.
