Reports are that Dick Butkus, who virtually invented the position of middle linebacker and served as the symbol of the Chicago Bears' ferocious defense in the md 1960s to early 1970s has died. Butkus was invited to eight Pro Bowls and was All-Pro 6 times. He was twice named NFL Defensive Player Of The Year.
Butkus was 80 years old.
