On November 22nd, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated while riding in a motorcade in Dallas. Today, it probably seems like ancient history to most people, but it did happen in my lifetime.
Luckily, there has not been a successful assassination, since. I had meant to correct that to no successful assassination of a US President, so the commenter in correct.

Of a president, there's not been a successful assassination. Remember, just a few short years later, a civil rights leader and the Kennedy's own brother got their lives cut short.
