Super Bowl Memories: Super Bowl II

This was the first Super Bowl that I ever watched on Television, The Green Bay Packers lead by legendary coach Vince Lombardi and quarterback great Bart Starr beating the best of the AFL, the Oakland Raiders. Little did anyone know, the immediate future looked better for the Raiders. It would take almost 30 years for the Packers to even participate in another Super Bowl.
That year I rooted for the Raiders because the Packers had knocked my favorite team, the LA Rams out of the play-offs.

Halloween Nightmare In Oakland For Seahawks

After a win on the road against the Bears and a victory over conference rival Arizona, the Seattle Seahawks seemed to take a step backwards against the Oakland Raiders, losing 33-3. The Raiders amassed 545 yards for the first time in their glorious history and also set a record for having their second game in a row with over 5oo yards of total offense. Running back Darren McFadden ran for 111 yards. As for the Seahawks, their offense was horrible with only 4 yards of total offense in the first quarter. The 'Hawks take on the Red Hot New York Giants next week at Qwest Field.

A great clip recalling the AFL's imfamous "Heidi Game" of 1968. A game that might have been unnoticed except for two things, number one, it involved the league's showcase teams, the Jets (who would go on that season and win the Super Bowl and the Raiders (at that time, the defending AFL champions) and also,it kept football fans from watching one of the greatest comebacks in professional football history.
41 years later, fans still remember the "Heidi Games". This clip says it all.

Seahawks Win Final Exhibition

The Seahawks finished there exhibition season with a rather unconvincing victory over the long floundering Oakland Raiders 19-14. The victory came 5 short days after another win against Minnesota, which gave Hawk fans a sigh of relief after a thorough embarrassment in Green Bay. Neither game showed enough to make us confident for a return to the Super Bowl.
The two Seahawk victories, no matter how meaningless they were, where a welcome contrast to the sudden fall of the Seattle Mariners. The Mariners after pulling within three games of the LA Angels from Anaheim (they really are the Anaheim Angels from LA, but that's a different story), have lost 7 games in a row. Last Tuesday loss at Safeco after building a five run lead, seems to have ripped the heart out of this team.
