Seattle NHL Team Name Announcement Could Be Soon

Lost in the craziness of the pandemic is the possible name and colors for Seattle's upcoming new NHL team. I checked out to see if this was even still happening as we will face a much different world during and after dealing with this historical happening (The Corona Virus, Not the team).
ESPN and KIRO 7 TV report that the team is jumping through the hoops and legal procedures to get a team name and colors.  They also want to be sensitive to the wants and needs of the community as a whole during the crisis.

Seattle NHL Team Picks Hall Of Fame Player For GM

With just two years to go until the first puck drops, the Seattle NHL expansion franchise has named Ron Francis as it's new general manager.  Francis, who played 22 seasons in the NHL and is 5th in all time points.

Francis has played on two Stanley Cup winning Pittsburgh Penguin teams.    He previously had been general manager with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Seattle team has yet to pick a nickname, but getting a known general manager should get it on the right track to build a winning franchise.

Seattle Times Readers Prefer Sockeyes For New Hockey Team In Poll

A Seattle Times reader's poll has chosen the name "Sockeyes" for the city's proposed NHL team.
It beat out the Totems, which was a long time professional hockey team in town and the Metropolitans, a Seattle team that won the Stanley Cup in the early 20th Century.
Of course, this is merely a fun poll and the name will be decided by the franchise, perhaps in the Spring. 

Seattle City Council Approves Key Arena Remodel

The Seattle City Council, often accused of being anti business, anti sports and anti mainstream, has unanimously approved a remodel Seattle's Key Arena in a principally privately financed deal.  The new arena will be home to the Seattle Storm, who just won it's third championship, and hopefully an NHL expansion team.
The long range goal will be to bring an NBA franchise back to the area.
The last scheduled event in the Key in it's present form is an October 5th NBA game between the Golden State Warriors , featuring ex Sonic Kevin Durant and the Sacramento Kings, who at one time had been thought to have been ready to move to this area.

NHL Expansion Vote Won't Be In June

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman (pictured) has stated that reports that the League  vote on expansion could happen this June are untrue.  Bettman said that a vote will probably take place in fall or early winter at the latest. 

No doubt, some will blame the newly passed Seattle Head Tax for the delay.  However, I don't that had anything to do with that and no one has said anything yet that hints a halting of expansion plans.

Tod Leiweke Named President Of Potential Hockey Team

Former Seattle Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke has been named President and CEO of a possible NHL franchise in Seattle.   Leiweke had been COO of the NFL.  His brother, Tim is  the CEO with the OVG Group, which is in charge of the remodel of Key Arena.  Leiweke  left the Seahawks to work in the front office of the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL franchise.
Word is that an announcement will be made in June on whether Seattle will be granted an NHL expansion team.

Seattle Potential NHL Team Sets Up Web Site

A potential National Hockey League team to be located in Seattle has begun advertising for it's new web site.  The web site at nhlseattle.com announces that the proposed team will take deposits for season ticket priority starting March 1st at 10am.   The proposed expansion team would play in the revamped version of what is now the Key Arena.
