Mitch Delivers Touching Interview With Author Steven Elliott

Mitch Levy, once the host of Sportsradio KJR's morning program has once again shown that he can deliver a great human interest interview on his now, once a week podcast.
On this week's show, Levy interviews Steven Elliott, the author of War Story.
To back things up, there is a sports angle to this story.  In 2004, Pat Tillman of the Arizona Cardinals, quit football to volunteer for US Army.  Of course, at the time, the country was mourning 9/11.   He was later reported to have been a war casualty.  First reported to be a victim of an enemy ambush and then revealed to be a victim of "friendly fire."
Steven Elliott is reported to be one of two soldier that may be responsible for Tillman's death.  Elliott has gone through life carrying the guilt of someone who most likely snuffed out the life of someone considered an American hero.
You can hear Levy interview Elliott, now a resident of Olympia about 40 minutes into the podcast by clicking here.

Levy Podcast Offers Stroke Info

Mitch Levy's podcast, known as Mitch Unfiltered, took a serious turn from the usual wisecracking and sports talk with a segment on recognizing the warning signs of a stroke.
Mitch has become concerned about stroke risk after hearing about a college basketball player suffering from one and also the untimely death of Luke Perry.
The segment, at 45 minutes into the podcast, features an interview with Dr. Sarah Lee, who is with the Stanford University Stroke Center Team.

Levy Podcast A Hit

How do you know if a podcast is successful?  I don't know, but I have noticed the podcast by former KJR Sports Radio morning host Mitch Levy, Mitch Unfiltered is amazingly well produced, with sponsors like Bellevue Land Rover, Daniel's Broiler, and Zeek's Pizza.
With 2 episodes a week, usually lasting over an hour and a half, Levy has covered a lot of ground with analysis, nostalgia, and the style unique to his long running radio show.
As far as I know, this is an independent venture from Levy's living room, yet, the sound is professional.
A tip of the hat to Jason Hamilton, Levy's straight man, wing man, co-host on the venture.

Emotional Apology From Levy

Former SportsRadio 950 morning man Mitch Levy started his first podcast, Mitch Unfiltered in his usual wisecracking style.  Levy, who had commanded the mornings on the station for well over 20 years, has been off the air since an arrest in a Bellevue prostitution sting in August of 2017.
About 15 minutes into the podcast, Levy's voice started to break as he spoke of what he felt led him into the situation.  He emotionally apologized to his family, his co-workers and his listeners.
Levy said that strong support that he received on twitter helped lift his spirits and motivated him to return.   The next podcast, according to Levy will have ex-UW coach Rick Neuheisel as a guest.  You can hear Mitch Unfiltered by clicking here.

Talk Of Mitch Levy Podcast

It 's been just over a year since Mitch Levy announced that he had been terminated from his morning shift at Sports Radio KJR  and there is talk of a comeback.  A group of followers have encouraged him to set up a podcast.
At KJR, Mitch had a no holds barred show covering issues that sports fans wanted to talk about.  While he had many detractors, his interview skills and his topic knowledge was rarely in question.
He was once named by Seattle Met Magazine, one of Seattle's 50 most influential people.
Levy said he was talking with "podcast people" and wanted to see if there was a wide demand or just a loud "few'.

The Fish Swims Away

Puget Sound.media reports that Jeff Aaron, known in local sports broadcasting in the area as "The Fish", has left KRKO in Everett.   Aaron had been in radio in Everett for 16 years, but may be better known as Mitch Levy's likable sidekick on Sportsradio KJR.
On KJR, Aaron was known for his grasp of sports history, he was often referred to by his co-host as Mr. Trivia.  He left KJR and Levy with a memorable last show. He landed at KRKO in 2002.
A format change to music at KRKO  has prompted his departure.  The Everett Herald is reporting that the Fish is heading for Phoenix to continue his sports broadcasting career.

Mitch Levy Announces Departure From KJR After Court Date

After probably one of the longest stints in Seattle area radio, Mitch Levy announced his departure from Sports radio 950.  Levy, an East coast transplant, had not been heard on the radio since word went out of his arrest along with over 100 others in a Bellevue prostitution sting.
Levy had been known for off color comments about women and his show for years ran a contest based on rating woman, however, his "gloves off" opinions on sports related topics is what attracted and angered many listeners.
After Levy's arrest was made public, the show continued without him.  Show "bumpers" would say his name, but his co-host,  the more subdued Dick Fain took on Mitch's duties.
Levy's announcement and apology came following a court appearance Thursday where he entered an "Alford Plea".  Levy received a deferred sentence, 24 months of probation, and according to court records, entered a 10 week men's accountability program for buyers of sex and paid  1,974 dollars in court costs.

Veteran Sports Radio Talkshow Host Arrested

A 20 year plus career in broadcasting and perhaps much more are in peril after news of Sports Radio KJR morning host Mitch Levy's arrest in a Bellevue prostitution sting.  Levy's often controversial show had run since the late 90s.  His show had often been rough around the edges in the early going, however, in the later years, the show concentrated more on the topic of sports.
Levy has been known as a good interviewer and someone who would speak his mind.
Although the show may sometimes be off color, especially in it's early years, Mitch would often speak of his children and their Little League exploits.  A native of the East Coast, Levy would take annually take time off for the Jewish High Holidays and sprinkle his show with Yiddish terms.  It seemed like he had a happy home life.
A departure of Mitch Levy could be a shift for the station and could rock the local radio scene.  It will be interesting to see how this will play out.

Sportsradio Morning Broadcaster Tapped By Seattle Met

Sportsradio KJR 950 morning man Mitch Levy was named one of Seattle's 50 most influential people in a list compiled by Seattle Met, a community magazine.  Along with Levy, the list includes state senators Ed Murray and Steve Litzow,  newly elected Congresswoman Suzan Del Bene,  and San Francisco Financier and potential NBA team owner Chris Hansen.
The magazine credited Levy to stirring up the issue of bringing the fences of Safeco Field closer to the plate, making easier for batter to hit home runs and allowing the team more pull with free agent signings.
Levy, who is originally from Florida, has been with the station for nearly 20 years.

Sports Radio Listener Exposes Charlotte Mayor

It was a little over a year ago and Seattle was on what would be a journey to the Super Bowl. Wisecracking KJR morning man Mitch Levy was able to get an interview with Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory before a matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers. Levy decided to have a little fun. He asked the Mayor if he wanted to make a friendly wager, if the Seahawks were to win, McCrory would buy Levy 2 tickets to the Duke-North Carolina game. If the Seahawks would have lost, McCrory said that Levy had to pony up 4 first class tickets to fly his family to Seattle as one of McCrory's relatives lives in the area. As you remember, the Seahawks did win. Levy (who has gotten into big trouble over bets before) decided to collect. What then ensued was a cat and mouse game where McCrory was harder to catch than the 2005 version of Saun Alexander. Mitch and his morning show staff made telephone calls, talked to his staff on the air, left unreturned voice mails for months. Finally a Seattle listener trapped the Mayor by pretending to work on the staff of someone he was going to lunch with. McCrory would up with egg on his face, but still would not face the music.
