Today marks the 75th anniversary of KIRO Radio 710 boosting it's power from 1000 watts to 50,000 watts, becoming the first station west of Minneapolis and north of Salt Lake City to do so. Feliks Banel, KIRO's historian had this report on the Dave Ross Show on KIRO 97.3 FM this morning. Click here

KBSG Gone--KIRO Newsradio Begins Simulcasting At 97.3
KIRO news radio has increased it's reach by simulcasting on the FM band. Long the voice of news, talk, and sports in the region, KIRO is arguably Seattle's most successful radio station. That point was driven home in 2004, when morning host Dave Ross ran as a Democrat for Congress. KIRO has traditionally broadcast at 710 on the AM dial. It will continue that spot and will also be heard at 97.3 on FM. Oldies station KBSG, which was KIRO's sister station, is no longer in existence.

Tony Ventrella--Now A Candidate

Sources tell me that Tony Ventrella is now a declared Democratic candidate for Washington's 8th US Congressional district. Ventrella becomes the second media figure to seek the position. KIRO talk show host Dave Ross sought the then vacant seat in 2004, losing to Sheriff Dave Reichert. Darcy Burner, who lost to Reichert last year is also seeking support for a 2008 run.
