Ernie Kent has been fired as WSU's basketball coach after going 5 years without a winning season. The Cougar basketball season ended with the worst loss ever suffered in a Pac 12 tournament, an 84-51 loss to Oregon.
Kent, who was hired by previous Cougar athletic director Bill Moos, had three years remaining on a contract. The buyout will cost about 4.2 million. The Cougar athletic department, however, decided it was an important step to change the direction of the program.
The Cougs had not been to post season in 7 years.
