Walla Walla 6--The Incubator

The Incubator, is an area near the Walla Walla airport, where upstart wineries can establish themselves, paying low rent, while having good visibility.

We went to SMAK, a winery offering Roses (rose a).

We had one person in our party not take part, as he was our designated driver.

Dossier--Another Celebrity Owned Winery

One of Downtown Walla Walla 's newest wine tasting rooms is Dossier.  It is co-owned by former Seahawk .Sydney Rice.

It is a high end winery, if you notice, the selection list is personalized.

You can see the reflection of the Baker-Boyer Bank,which is across the street, in the door

Eritage At Night

We found a new way to enjoy Walla Walla.  The Eritage Resort, north of town 

Although it is a little ways from town, it features beautiful vistas of wine fields and skies at night. 

There are bikes to ride, as well as kayaks and paddle boards.

NBA Superstar Walton Dies

NBA great Bill Walton has died.  He reportedly has had cancer. Walton was on the Blazers team the Blazers team when it won its first, and so far, only NBA title. The Seattle Sonics, perhaps motivated by the Blazers, would win two years later.

I love Dave Sundstrom's videos, he covers the era that I grew up with.  Was Burt Ward (Robin on Batman) mistreated? The TV industry was much different at the time. 

Lake Wilderness, The Gem Of Maple Valley!

Very rare for me to post 3 times in one day, but I got a little behind and this allowed me to get at least up to date. I did not mention that this is Lake Wilderness, taken in Lake Wilderness Park which I have post about many many times.

What's Up With Blogger??

 Suddenly when I blog, links will, to lack a better term, double the text.  Like this Like this  This has never happened before, I frequently use links for footnotes and to further my point.  

Also, much harder to post blog articles in Facebook groups.   I will try to post my articles in related groups, but now, many groups flat out reject blog posts.  You also cannot post directly to a group from the blog.  You need to cut and paste.  

Blogging is beginning to be more difficult, although, I think that I have much more in me.  We may carry this on for another year or so.

Bob Hoagland First Congregational Church in Bellevue

Reverend Lisa from the First Congregational Church makes a beautiful tribute to my father-in-law   Bob Hoagland, who passed away on May 6th.

Bledsoe Roasts Brady

Drew Bledsoe, who quarterbacked at two of my alma maters Walla Walla High School and Washington State University, was featured prominently in the Tom Brady roast, now running on Netflix.

Bledsoe was famous for suffering a catastrophic injury that lead to Brady taking over the Patriots QB position.

Bledsoe did mention his winery which is based in Walla Walla.

In a game of concentration, that has to weigh in his mind, if he is able to play.  

This is odd and inexplicable, did the police overreact or did Scheffler think he was above the law? 

Bob fondly remembered

Father-In-Law Bob Hoagland tribute. He was mentioned in yahrzeit program at Temple De Hirsh.

The Vice President made an oopsie, but really, it doesn't seem like the audience was offended and perhaps in the future, the word will simply add emphasis. 

Bear Attends Service

The sanctuary of Temple De Hirsch Sinai in Bellevue backs up to a forested area with windows from floor to ceiling. 

This bear showed herself during Friday Night Services. 

There had been word of a cub found in the bushes. 

I had attended that service, but got this picture off the video of what was the live feed.

The rabbi, shown here, kept his cool, and assured the congregation that the proper authorities had it under control.  When one of the speakers speculated what type of bear it was, the rabbi quipped "it's a bear mitzvah."

Palestine And Macklemore

The Traveling Clatt takes aim on Rapper Macklemore and his support of the Pro Palestine movement.  This is a continuation of yesterday's post, which also linked to this video.

This is surprising, but not shocking, Macklemore, local rapper doing a Pro Palestine song and video, which is well within his rights and does have a right to disagree, but, couple that with his act at the EMP, almost exactly 10 years ago, where he went out of his way to apologize for the egregious anti-semetic display, it is sad and unfortunate.

Macklemore's real name is Ben Haggerty, he is native of the area and a huge Mariner and Seahawks fan.  He is also taken on some just causes like LGTQ Plus rights and anti-bullying.  

I think that he is indeed off base to attack this issue without a more well  rounded approach.

Bob Hoagland--Father-In-Law And Mentor

Bob is on the left. This picture was taken for the Crossroads Shopping Center newsletter in 2008. This is a copy of my Facebook post from yesterday (May 7th, 2024).

Deb and I are sad to announce the passing of my father-in-law Bob Hoagland. A father figure, business partner, and loving family member.

A native of Massachusetts, Bob and Lynn Hoagland moved here to the Seattle area after living in several towns on the East Coast. After a career in hotels and restaurants, he purchased three UPS Store franchises in Bellevue. He would eventually bring my wife and I into the ownership group where we enjoyed meeting and serving people in the area, making lifelong friends.

Bob enjoyed serving the community as a member of the Bellevue First Congregational Church, Rotary, and volunteering at the Puget Sound Blood Center and the Salvation Army Food Bank. He loved playing golf.

Bob was known as a hard worker and a devoted family man. He deeply loved his twin daughters, Debra Barer and Donna Hoagland Wagner his sons in law, two grandsons and grand dogs.

A celebration of life will be planned for next month (June 2024).

Runaway Zebra Caught

In nearby North Bend, a runaway zebra who captured imagination of social media, therefore the world, was found and captured this weekend. The zebra got out with 3 others on April 28th on it's way to a petting zoo in Montana. The other three were captured within hours, leaving this one on the run for a week. 

North Bend is about 18 miles from Maple Valley.

Lee Goldberg Sells Screen Rights To Thriller

 Cousin Lee Goldberg announced on his blog that he has sold the screen rights to his book, Malibu Burning.  The book is a page turning thriller that even a casual reader like myself found hard to put down.

The rights to the book were purchased by ID8 Multimedia, led by industry veterans, Derek Dudley and Shelby Stone.  

Goldberg did not reveal how much input that he would have in the making of the project, he said the next step will be to hire a screenwriter, director and star.
