Senator Feinstein Dead

Diane Feinstein, the longest serving female senator in our nation's history, died last night (Thursday, September 28th, 2023), she was 90.  Feinstein was elected to the senate from California in 1992.

A relative moderate, Feinstein was considered somewhat Conservative by some Democrats.  But considered Liberal by Republicans. The balance apparently worked in her favor.

Feinstein served as mayor of San Francisco in the wake of the assassinations of City Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone.

I watched Feinstein speak and shook her hand many years ago at the Eastside Democratic Dinner.

😮 Benches clear in Astros-Mariners as Hector Neris taunts Julio Rodrigue...

We were at the game last night and the above happened.  In my wildest dreams, I never imagined Julio getting involved in something like this.
From the stands, you couldn't tell what got this started. We just saw the benches clear.

Pac 2 Shirt Popular With Fans

WSU and OSU are the only two schools that so far havent been scheduled to leave the PAC 12 for a different conference next season.
This T-shirt that a group of fans wore, made fun of the situation.
Both teams are ranked in the Top 20 at this writing (Tuesday, September 26th, 2023).

Local Article Talks Of Deep Friendship Of Jews And Japanese

An article in the Jewish newsletter The Cholent made rounds on Facebook last week.  The article was brought to my Cousin Sam's attention by "honorary Barer Ian Eisenberg" and talks about the cooperation of Seattle's Jewish population and it's Japanese population in the fish business and other concerns going back to the early and mid 20th century.

It also mentions the help that locals Jews offered during the dark period in American history where Japanese were sent to "relocation centers", Jews helped our Japanese brethren with financial and moral support.

The article goes on to mention that my family, in Walla Walla, also helped Japanese businesses sustain during that period.  According to family members, my Great Uncle Dave secretly wrote checks allowing relocated families help in sustaining their businesses and keeping their homes, this done with particular risk, but indeed, in my opinion, the right thing to do.

Maple Valley Art Council Work Beautifies Tunnel

I had not walked the Lake Wilderness Trail for a few years as work in the lot where I usually parked made it almost impossible to start.

I finally took the trail again yesterday (Tuesday, September 20th, 2023) with Oliver and was surprised by the lovely painting in and around the tunnel that goes under Witte Road on the way to the park.

It really brightened up what was before, very plain and dank.

Seahawks Open Season With Loss

The NFL season has kicked off.  Deb and I joined a couple friends for the Seahawks first game.
The weather was great and the crowd was loud, but the Rams were too much and beat the 'Hawks 30-13.

Go Seahawks!!!

The Seahawks open the season at home vs the LA Rams.  We will be there!

Alderbrook 7--Lake Cushman

After a trip to Hoodsport, we found Lake Cushman, a lovely huge body of water nearby.  Deb was fascinated and wanted to circumnavigate the entire lake, a drive of maybe an hour or two (who counts when you are on vacation),

One of Jimmy Buffett's most popular songs.  The irony is it begins with leaving for a Labor Day Weekend show.  Buffett died on Labor Day Weekend.

Barers Of Maple Valley Posts 40 In August

This picture is from the Maple Valley Historical Society page as I was looking for a picture that would capture the town where this blog is originated.

In a fun filled August, I celebrated the last full month of  Summer by posting 40 times.  I believe that is only the second time.  As I often joke, it's either of sign of doing a lot or doing little.  This month, I think it's easy the see that it was a busy month.

The record number of posts for a month is 43 in July of 2022.
