Senator Feinstein Dead
Diane Feinstein, the longest serving female senator in our nation's history, died last night (Thursday, September 28th, 2023), she was 90. Feinstein was elected to the senate from California in 1992.
A relative moderate, Feinstein was considered somewhat Conservative by some Democrats. But considered Liberal by Republicans. The balance apparently worked in her favor.
Feinstein served as mayor of San Francisco in the wake of the assassinations of City Supervisor Harvey Milk and Mayor George Moscone.
I watched Feinstein speak and shook her hand many years ago at the Eastside Democratic Dinner.

Local Article Talks Of Deep Friendship Of Jews And Japanese
An article in the Jewish newsletter The Cholent made rounds on Facebook last week. The article was brought to my Cousin Sam's attention by "honorary Barer Ian Eisenberg" and talks about the cooperation of Seattle's Jewish population and it's Japanese population in the fish business and other concerns going back to the early and mid 20th century.

Maple Valley Art Council Work Beautifies Tunnel
I had not walked the Lake Wilderness Trail for a few years as work in the lot where I usually parked made it almost impossible to start.
I finally took the trail again yesterday (Tuesday, September 20th, 2023) with Oliver and was surprised by the lovely painting in and around the tunnel that goes under Witte Road on the way to the park.
It really brightened up what was before, very plain and dank.

Barers Of Maple Valley Posts 40 In August
This picture is from the Maple Valley Historical Society page as I was looking for a picture that would capture the town where this blog is originated.
In a fun filled August, I celebrated the last full month of Summer by posting 40 times. I believe that is only the second time. As I often joke, it's either of sign of doing a lot or doing little. This month, I think it's easy the see that it was a busy month.
The record number of posts for a month is 43 in July of 2022.
