Seahawks Beat Patriots In Dramatic Fashion

In what could be the most dramatic finish in Seahawk history, Patriot quarterback Cam Newton was stuffed at the 1 yard line to preserve a 35-30 victory.  The game was broadcast to a national Sunday Night Football audience on NBC and it did not disappoint.

Seahawk quarterback Russell Wilson had 5 touchdown passes as he gets off to a hot start for 2020.  The game was played at Century Link, but the 12s were absent.   The empty seats added an eerie vibe to the game.  Of course, the Patriots were without Tom Brady, but with Cam Newton at the controls, it looks like they will remain in the league elite.

Brady To Quarterback The Bucs

In a year where the unbelievable has become believable, the NFL's most iconic player will be in a different uniform.  Tom Brady, a New England Patriot for 20 years is headed to Tampa Bay, where he is expected to sign with the Buccaneers.
Tampa Bay, which coincidently, has the same initials as the Brady, has the lowest winning percentage of any NFL team. They did win a Super Bowl in January of 2003.
Brady, who is 42, has one 6 Super Bowl Titles and 4 Super Bowl MVP Awards, he is, no doubt the most successful NFL player of all time.
The city of Tampa Bay is scheduled to host the Super Bowl in February of 2021.

Eagles Win Super Bowl In Game For The Ages

Yes, it's pretty clear that Tom Brady is the greatest NFL quarterback of all time, but he doesn't own the Lombardi Trophy.  The Philadelphia Eagles fought and clawed and used every weapon they had right down to the end to beat the reigning champion New England Patriots 41-33
No doubt, this will go down in history as one of the greatest Super Bowls in history.  The two teams combined set a record for most yards in a Super Bowl and that was before the 4th quarter started.    It was the first Super Bowl win for the Eagles. It denied New England it's 6th Super Bowl win.  The Patriots have played in a record of 10 Super Bowls.
The Eagles lost their franchise quarterback Carson Wentz in the middle of the season and were thought to be dead in the water.  The Eagles quarterback, Nick Foles had considered retirement after last season.  Foles threw for over 370 yards.
It was not a great day for defenses and both team's punter's got plenty of rest.  The Seattle Seahawks beat the Eagles earlier in the season.

Aaron Hernandez Found Dead In Prison Cell

Did not see this coming, days after being acquitted in a double murder charge, former Patriot star Aaron Hernandez was found dead by hanging in his prison cell.  He was still serving a life sentence on a different murder charge.

Super Sunday Fun

Lady Gaga performs at halftime at this year's Super Bowl.  Deb and I watched with our friends at Twin Peaks Sports Bar in Tukwila.  Every table had it's own TV and there is a bank of big screen TVs over the bar.  We all left before the game ended due to reports of incoming snow.  As you probably now know it was a tale of two halves.   The Atlanta Falcons cruised to large early lead only to have the New England Patriots come back in the second half to win.   The crowd mostly cheered Atlanta, but there was also a very audible section of New England fans.

Seahawks Hang On For Huge Victory

The Seattle Seahawks put themselves back into the Super Bowl conversation with a 31-24 victory over the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football.  New England had been 7-1 and were a heavy favorite.  Rookie Seahawk running back CJ Prosise had 66 running yards and 87 yards receiving.  The Seahawks also took advantage of the return of Kam Chancellor, who had some key stops.

Welcome Back Brandon Browner

Popular Cornerback Brandon Browner is a Seahawk again.  Browner was one of the original members of the Legion Of Boom along with Cam Chancellor, Richard Sherman, and Earl Thomas. After the Seahawks Super Bowl victory, the salary cap forced the team to cut many valuable players.  Browner wound up with the New England Patriots, where he play a large part in the Pats Super Bowl victory over the 'Hawks. Last year, Browner played with the New Orleans Saints.  He was slowed by injuries, but is said to be healthy for the 2016 season. Browner rejoins Chancellor, Sherman, and Thomas on the team.

Goodell's Suspension Of Brady Overturned

A federal court has overturned the 4 game suspension of New England  Patriot quarterback for allegedly conspiring to alter game balls.  This is a move that could have a chilling effect on how professional sport leagues meat out future suspensions.  Federal District Court  Judge Richard Berman determined that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell had delivered a much too harsh penalty. Of course, my feeling is that if Brady or any other player, no matter what team they played for, was accused of alter equipment, harsh discipline should be in order.  Of course, when all is said and done, neither Brady, nor Goodell will be viewed well in history.
Goodell has been a punching bag for the sports media for years, even though it looks like his motivation seems to be noble.  Goodell has said that the NFL will appeal.

Brady Inplicated In Deflategate

An investigation by the NFL has concluded that the NFL's premier quarterback, Tom Brady most likely was aware of under inflated balls  used during last season's AFC Championship game. The Patriots soundly defeated the Indianapolis Colt last January, winning the right to face our Seahawks in the Super Bowl, days later, word got out that balls provided by Patriots employee may have been inflated below NFL rules.
Even Seahawks fans are not blaming doctored balls for the heartbreaking defeat in last February's Super Bowl, but this seriously tarnishes Brady's potential legacy, and as we've seen with baseball players implicated in various scandals, could come to roost when it's time to vote him into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.

1992 Seahawks Vs Patriots: A Different Battle

In the spirit of Throwback Thursday, in 1992, The Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots were involved in a different battle.  For number 1 pick in the NFL Draft.  The Pats were ever so slightly worst and were number 1 pick--they chose WSU quarterback Drew Bledsoe (above).  The Seahawks picked quarterback Rick Mirer from Notre Dame, who the following season, started better than Bledsoe, but soon was unable to stay at the level needed to QB in the NFL. Bledsoe, a native of Walla Walla, was instrumental in building the Patriots into one of the NFL's greatest franchises.
Both teams are now considered the best in the league.

Patriots To Meet Seahawks In Super Bowl

For the second year in a row, the Seattle Seahawks will face a Hall Of Fame bound Quarterback in the Super Bowl.  Last year the Hawks shut down Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, this year, the task seems even more daunting as we face the New England Patriots and legendary quarterback Tom Brady.  After a sputtering start, news stories were coming out that Patriot dominance was over.  No sooner had that idea hit , the Patriots went on a 7 win tear, finishing the season at 13-3.  This will be the Patriots 6th trip to the Super Bowl under Brady.  Brady will going for his 4th Super Bowl ring.

Seattle Seahawks Shock The Patriots

The Seattle Seahawks have continued to "beat the unbeatable" as they overcame a 23-10 deficit and defeated the New England Patriots 24-23.  The team has beaten NFL strongholds Green Bay, Dallas, and New England at home and have beaten Carolina at home.  The Seahawk have usually had trouble winning in the East Coast time zone.  The 'Hawks' two losses have come against conference foes Arizona and StLouis.  In the picture above, Sidney Rice brings in the winning touchdown, a 46 yard pass from quarterback Russell Wilson.

Bye Bye Branch

The Seattle Times reports that Deion Branch has been traded back to the New England Patriots. Since giving up a 2007 first round draft pick to acquire him in September of 2006, Branch was frequently injured and was unable to play a full season.

A Perfect Regular Season For The Patriots

This game was in my opinion more exciting than most Super Bowls, as the New England Patriots overcame a 12 point deficit and beat the New York Football Giants 38-35. This makes the team formerly known as the "Boston Patriots", the first team go undefeated in a 16 game regular season. The 1972 Miami Dolphins finished a 14 game season undefeated. To add insult to injury for Miami Dolphins fans, this years addition of the Dolphins are horrendous this year. They did not have a victory for the first several weeks of the season.

Drew Bledsoe Hangs Up Pads For Good

After 14 years in the National Football League, Dallas Cowboy quarterback Drew Bledsoe is calling it quits. Bledsoe was the number one pick overall by the New England Patriots and saw them go from one of the worst organizations in the NFL to one of the best. Bledsoe guided the Patriots to the AFC championship in 1996, but lost the Super Bowl to the Green Bay Packers. He was knocked out of the starting job by a chest injury in 2001 by Tom Brady who lead the Patriots that season to their first Superbowl victory.
He then played 3 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, setting 10 team passing records. He finished his last two seasons with the Cowboys, losing his starting job halfway through last season to Tony Romo.
Bledsoe graduated from Walla Walla High School where he excelled in both football and basketball. He was the state's top recruit when went to Washington State University, becoming the starting quarterback in his freshman season.
