Bart Starr

CNN reports the passing of Green Bay quarterback legend Bart Starr.  He was 85.
Starr was the winning quarterback in the first two Super Bowls in 1967 and '68.
Starr and the late Johnny Unitas were considered the "gold standard" of quarterbacks of that era.

Jerry Kramer, the Green Bay Packer guard who played in the first 2 Super Bowls, has finally been selected for induction into the Pro Football Hall Of Fame.  It was Kramer's 11th time on the ballot.
The Packers, under legendary coach Vince Lombardi, won 5 NFL titles during Kramer's career, including the first two Super Bowl wins.
Kramer is a member of the All Decade Team of the 60s and the Packer Hall Of Fame.  Kramer will be the 32nd Packer to be inducted.

Seahawks Return To Super Bowl After Amazing Comeback

The Seahawks overcame an almost 0 offense first 3 quarters, to beat the Green Bay Packers 28-22.  Russell Wilson threw 4 interceptions, the most of his career and only completed 2 passes in the first half.  Even after a fake field goal, resulted in a touchdown pass, the team still could not regain the momentum.  However, when it seemed the most hopeless, the 'Hawks scored a touchdown, recovered an onside kick, scored another touchdown to take the lead and made a two point conversion.  The Pack answered with a last minute field goal to tie.  The Seahawks won the toss for the overtime giving Seattle the first possession.  Remember, if the 'Hawks would have made a field goal, Green Bay would get the ball back. However, Wilson was able to find Jermaine Kearse for a 35 yard winning score.

Seahawks Try To Earn 2nd Straight Super Bowl Visit

It's come down to this, the Seattle Seahawks need one more victory to return to the Super Bowl.  Green Bay, whose season record was 12-4, the same as the 'Hawks, invades Century Link Field this Sunday with the kick off scheduled at 12:05,

Seahawks Get 2014 NFL Season Underway Wilth Victory

The world champion Seattle Seahawks got the honor of kicking off the 2014 NFL season last night, doing it in style with a 36-16 victory over the Green Bay Packers.  With a crowd so raucous that radio listens could barely hear the announcers (I listened to the 1st quarter and most of the second on the local radio station),  Green Bay was forced to use up their allotted 3 time outs early in the first half.
Seahawk NFL Hall Of Fame members Walter Jones, Cortez Kennedy, and Steve Largent raised the 12 Flag in the games opening ceremonies.

Seahawks Sign Quarterback Matt Flynn

It seems familiar, a back up Green Bay quarterback is coming to town to lead the Seahawks. In 2001, Mike Holmgren brought a then unknown understudy to Bret Favre named Matt Hasselbeck to towns.  Now it has been reported that Packer Aaron Rogers' back up Matt Flynn has just been signed to be the Seahawks new starting quarterback.  Flynn was a seventh round draft pick in 2008 from LSU.

Super Bowl Memories: Super Bowl II

This was the first Super Bowl that I ever watched on Television, The Green Bay Packers lead by legendary coach Vince Lombardi and quarterback great Bart Starr beating the best of the AFL, the Oakland Raiders. Little did anyone know, the immediate future looked better for the Raiders. It would take almost 30 years for the Packers to even participate in another Super Bowl.
That year I rooted for the Raiders because the Packers had knocked my favorite team, the LA Rams out of the play-offs.

The Pack Is Back

The Green Bay Packers won their 4th Super Bowl last Sunday. The Pittsburgh Steelers to whom the Packers beat have won 6. However, putting it in historical perspective, the Packers have won 13 NFL Championships. That is what the Super Bowl now signifies.

Green Bay won the first two Super Bowls with what was a team of legends. There coach was Vince Lombardi, the man to whom the trophy was named after. They had such legends as Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke, Paul Hornung, Boyd Dowler, Willie Davis, and Jerry Kramer. After Lombardi left the team, the Packers languished.

Coach Mike Holmgren took over in the 90s and finally brought the "Pack Back", after Holmgren left for our Seahawks, the team stayed strong and finally returned the crown this year. Green Bay Quarterback Aaron Rodgers threw for 309 yards and three touchdown passes.

Packers Maul Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks took a few steps down the staircase in a 48-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers. It was the third loss in a row in a game that was too reminiscent of the Hawks in the Ken Behring era. Fading Matt Hasselbeck threw 4 interceptions, two snuffing out potential touchdown drives as the 'Hawks showed streaks of promise in the first half. For the third week in a row John Carlson scored Seattle's only touchdown. The win sent the Green Bay Packers to the play-offs, and the Seahawks back to the "drawing board" in Seattle.

Seahawks Thrashed At Qwest

The Seattle Seahawks showed they can be just as ineffective at their home field as they can be on the road, losing to the Green Bay Packers 27-17. The game was really not as close as the score would indicate as they were listless on both offense and defense. Matt Hasselbeck sat out the game with a hyper extended knee and his replacement Charlie Frye could not move the ball against a patchwork Green Bay defense.

Seahawk's Superbowl Dream Turns Into Nightmare

For a moment, it looked like we could prove the world wrong. Like we could take down the Green Bay Packers and prove that this would be a magical season. Our defense had recovered 2 fumbles, which turned into touchdowns but then suddenly, things took a turn for the worst. In Green Bay's Lambeau field where so many dreams have ended over the years, the Green Bay Packers stomped the Seattle Seahawks 42-20. It was the largest point total the Packers had ever scored in a post season game.
The Green Bay Packers move on to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1997 when Mike Holmgren coached the team. Holmgren, who has coached the Seahawks for 10 years is rumoured to be considering retirement.

Seahawks Vs Green Bay: Glad It Does Not Count

I've never been a real fan of "exhibition" football. Generally, starters only play a fraction of the game, so by the middle of the second quarter, it stops being exciting or even pleasant to watch. The Seattle Seahawks can only hope that yesterday's 48-13 thrashing at the hands of the Green Bay Packers was not a sign for things to come. The Pack had over 30 points by halftime to put this game to bed early and the only consequence from this game was the round thrashing by Coach Mike Holmgren who said that the reason there were no major injuries in the game is his players did not hit anyone.
