Alan was the true definition of a gentleman. Whether he was running the family business, serving his country, or sharing stories of old Walla Walla over morning coffee, he did it with a steady hand and a smile. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and deep devotion to his family and his community. He honorably carried on his grandfather's legacy at the family business, B. Barer & Sons, where he was highly respected as a fair and wonderful boss. He spent decades supporting his hometown through civic involvement in the Rotary, Kiwanis, Toastmasters, and The Little Theatre of Walla Walla. Alan spent his entire life building things that last a multi-generational family business, decades of community service, and a beautiful, sprawling family. He anchors us all in the values of hard work, humility, and humor. We are all better people for having known him.
