NBA Expansion Including Potential Sonic Return Said To Be Addressed

Are the Sonics returning? An increasingly skeptical fanbase is hearing NBA commissioner Adam Silver say the topic will be discussed and possibly voted on by the league's Board of Governors this summer.

Seattle, along with Las Vegas, have long been considered candidates for expansion.  Of course, the Sonics left for Oklahoma City, in 2008.  Since the Sonics departure, the NFL Seahawks have won two Super Bowls, the Seattle area has grown, and Key Arena was remodeled into the state of  the art, Climate Pledge Arena.

The proof is in the pudding and cupcakes.

Our region has been down this road a few times since the Sonics left, only to be left disappointed. This time does feel different though. This time feels like it might actually happen. The Seattle of today is not the same as the Seattle of 2008. We've added hundreds of thousands of new residents. We've won two Super Bowls. We briefly had XFL football. We've launched successful MLS and NHL teams. We have the new professional women's hockey team, the Torrent. Our WNBA team has done quite well. We nearly made it to the World Series just last year! Seattle is a much more sports hungry region now than it was two decades ago. This region is ready to welcome the Sonics back. Its time!
