The musical group The Underhills is named after a running gag in the classic 1980s Chevy Chase movie Fletch.
In the movie, the main character, Irwin "Fletch" Fletcher, is undercover at a country club. He overhears a snobby member, Mr. Underhill, being rude to a waiter. To get back at him, Fletch later orders expensive food and drinks (specifically a Bloody Mary and two steak sandwiches) and tells the waiter he is "with the Underhills," charging the items to their tab.
The Seattle-based cover band uses this reference in conjunction with their love for 80s pop culture, music, and "big parties with lots of dancing, fun, food, and drink". Other musical groups have used the name as well, sometimes also referencing Fletch or the Lord of the Rings character who uses "Underhill" as an alias.
