Classic TV's Mary Ann Makes Seattle Appearences

One of the great baby boomer arguments has been "Ginger or Mary Ann?" That is, of course, a matter of preference and also a slight to Mrs. Howell.  Dawn Wells, the UW grad who played Mary Ann on the popular TV series from the 1960s, Gilligan's Island, has announced three Seattle area appearances next month.  Wells will be at the University Of Washington Bookstore in Seattle, December 10th at 7pm.  On December 11th, .  Finally, she will be appearing at Blackrapid in Seattle, also December 11th at 7pm.
The Dawn Wells site encourages you to call the stores in advance to get details..  Also, some venues may ask that you get wristbands or register in advance. You may also want to check in case there is a cancellation.

The Professor From Gilligan's Island Dies

Russell Johnson, who played  Professor Roy Hinkley on the classic TV show, Gilligan's Island has died.  A resident of the Pacific Northwest for over two decades, Johnson played a character that was really the antithesis of Gilligan, intelligent and competent.  Referred to only as "The Professsor, he was the straight man on the show, which also featured exaggerated caricatures of a sea captain, a bumbling first mate, a millionaire couple, a movie star, and a midwest farm girl.
Critics were not amused at the show and it's inplausable plot of the castaways settling on an uncharted island after a tour boat was lost in a storm, but America found it a great escape and a barrel of laughs.  The show lasted 4 seasons.
Tina Louise, who played Ginger and Dawn Wells who played Mary Ann, ironically the 2 single women characters in the show are the last survivors of the Gilligans Island cast.

Outlaw Radio Hosts TV Icon

One of the fictional 7 castaways of TV's Gilligan's Island, Dawn Wells was a guest on Outlaw Radio . The weekly radio show which can only be heard on the Internet, is hosted by radio DJ, Matt Alan and includes cousin Burl Barer and some pals who hang around a restored bar talking of the topics of the week.
Wells, who received a degree in Theatre Arts (drama) from the University Of Washington, played Mary Anne, the clean living Midwesterner who was "hut-mate" to movie star Ginger. Wells said that her appeal was her "girl next door" as opposed to Ginger's "out on the town" image. Wells talked about her charitable pursuits and addressed some of the rumors of cast discord during the run of the Gilligan series.
