The Apple Cup, Cougs vs Huskies is being played today (Sunday September 6th, 2026). I don't remember ever watching college football on Sunday, save for, maybe bowl games.
The game has started! Go Cougs!

Great post Mike. Despite entering the game as heavy 23.5-point underdogs, the Cougars under first-year head coach Kirby Moore showed incredible resilience and fighting spirit throughout the match. there was a massive momentum shifter at the end of the second quarter, when the Cougar defense completely stuffed Washington's rushing attack on 4th-and-goal to prevent a touchdown. It showed they wouldn't back down from anyone. WSU held a potent, #17-ranked Huskies offense to a relatively quiet afternoon, refusing to let the game turn into a blowout despite what the sportsbooks predicted. The defense consistently stepped up in big moments, frustrating the Huskies' offense and forcing critical stops that kept WSU within striking distance for most of the day. We can praise quarterback Caden Pinnick for his dual-threat effort, especially his hard-fought rushing touchdown that injected late-game life into the Cougars. When WSU scored to bring it to a 17-7 game in the final quarter, they proved they had the heart to battle until the final whistle, never letting the Huskies get completely comfortable. With a heavily overhauled roster and a brand new coaching era, putting up this kind of disciplined, physical fight in Week 1 is an incredibly promising foundation for the rest of the season. The final 24-10 score obscures just how tightly contested and physical this "defense-first" battle truly was for all four quarters. Kirby Moore's squad showed national television audiences on NBC that WSU still possesses the "Coug Grit" required to stay competitive in a changing college football landscape.
