Bill Russell, one of the greatest NBA players of all time, first Black coach in the NBA, and social activist, has died. He was 88.
Russell won 11 titles in 13 years with the Boston Celtics, the last two as player-coach of the team. He also won an Olympic Gold medal in 1956.
As well as Boston where he was player-coach for the Celtics until 1969, Russell also coached the Seattle Super Sonics for 4 years beginning in 1973 and remained a resident of this area.
He was a great coach and a nice person.
