Visiting Oswald West State Park near Manzanita is an incredible experience that perfectly captures the magic of the Pacific Northwest. The park seamlessly blends ancient, moss-covered coastal rainforests with dramatic ocean cliffs and hidden beaches, leaving visitors feeling completely immersed in nature. It is rare to find a place where towering Sitka spruces literally touch the edge of the ocean sand. Walking through the old-growth temperate rainforest feels like stepping back in time into an ancient world. Emerging from a dense, moody forest trail onto a hidden, sunlit beach feels like discovering your own secret paradise. The sound of the wind through the giant cedars mixed with the crashing surf at Short Sand Beach is the ultimate peace. Standing on the edge of the cape makes you realize how beautifully small we are against the vast Pacific. Watching the powerful, churned-up waves crash into the sheer volcanic cliffs is an absolute humbling thrill. The sweeping panoramic view of the coastline stretching down toward Manzanita makes every steep step of the climb worth it. There is nothing like sitting on a drift-log at Smugglers Cove, watching the local surfers catch waves framed by giant cliffs.
