I have been told that our family, at least the Barer side, hails from Bar, a village of about 16,000 in the Central part of Ukraine. I have heard something like the family name originated in that town.
Although this small city is not well known, there is an entry in the Wikipedia on it. Click here.
Wouldn't be fun to explore the belfry of that church.
