About 10 years ago when I was starting this blog, I came upon the blog of
Lloyd Thaxton. I used to watch his teen dance show in the 60s. It was in the break out time of the Beatles. I started e-mailing my memories of the show, he was really good about e-mailing back. I bought his book,
"Stuff Happens" and he sent a personalized autograph plate.
Sadly, not long afterward,
Lloyd passed away. The fact that I had communicated with him, made it a crushing blow.
As far as having his autograph, a real Lloyd Thaxton fan would say,
"So What!"
And I thought I was the only one who watched that show. Much better than Am. Bandstand
ReplyDeleteA Lloid who loves Lloyd! I loved the Lloyd Thaxton Show. I was just the right age to where I found his gags entertaining. Dick Clark never did gags. He was wrapped up in his own coolness. Thaxton was quite the opposite.
ReplyDeleteMike, Uncle Lloyd cared more about making his fans happy than he did about how good or well-groomed he looked on camera (but it wasn't bad!). That's why LL was primo cool - having fun being himself, and conveying that fun and coolness everywhere he went. Dick was more concerned with how he'd get over to audiences on the boob tube.
