Inventor Of Instant Replay Dies

Tony Verna is not a famous name by any means, but the former network sports director for is noted for an innovation that totally changed the way America has watched sports.  Verna is credited with developing instant replay.  the ability to watch a football play that has just taken place.  According to the New York Times, instant replay was first used in the 1963 Army-Navy game.  A game mostly known for it's somber tone, it was played only 15 days after the assassination  of President Kennedy.  The replay was used after Army scored a touchdown, the innovation was so new, that broadcasting great Lindsay Nelson needed to announce that what they were watching was not live.
Verna died earlier this month at his home in Palm Desert, California.
